Installing packages
Add ready-made bindings for your apps, or link a local package.
A chord package contains TOML chord files and, optionally, compiled handlers. Install packages through Chord's settings; the app loads their built files directly.
Use the official collection
- Open Settings with
0,. - Go to Chords → Chord Monorepos.
- Choose Add Monorepo and enter
KeyChord/chords. - Tick the packages you want under Packages to use.
Chord reloads when you change a selection. Use Sync Latest to update the monorepo later.
Pick your apps
| Package | Use it for |
|---|---|
chords-com.apple.finder | Finder navigation and file actions |
chords-com.apple.Safari | Safari |
chords-chromium | Chromium browsers |
chords-vscode | Visual Studio Code |
chords-jetbrains | JetBrains IDE actions |
chords-terminal | Tabs in Terminal, iTerm2, Ghostty and other basic terminals |
chords-warp | Warp |
chords-windows | Window actions |
chords-menu | Menus and system actions |
The official package repository has the complete collection. Individual Apple apps have their own packages; enable the ones you use.
Install a standalone repository
Use Settings → Chords → Chord Repos → Add Repo, then enter owner/name.
Settings → Browse also offers curated packages. These use mirror repositories, which can lag behind the monorepo. Add KeyChord/chords when you want its current versions.
Load a local folder
Use Settings → Chords → Local Folders → Add Folder to load a package you are developing. For an installed repository, use Link Local Folder to replace it with a local checkout.
A local source wins over a GitHub source with the same package name. To customize a binding, edit a local copy of the package that owns it. Defining the same sequence in another package is not a reliable override.
Default package precedence
The pinned default chords-menu and chords-com.apple repositories take precedence over their monorepo copies. Remove those entries under Chord Repos if you want the monorepo's versions instead.
See the package reference for the complete source and precedence details.
