Getting started

Your first chord

Activate chord mode, type a sequence, and make something happen.

Open Settings

This built-in chord works before you install any optional packages.

  1. Hold Caps Lock and press and hold Space.
  2. Release Caps Lock, keeping Space held.
  3. Type 0, in order.
  4. Release Space.

Chord opens its settings window. You have completed your first chord.

Keep chord mode open

To run several chords without leaving chord mode, press Caps Lock after typing a sequence, while still holding Space. Then type another sequence.

When you are finished, release Space.

Try Finder

Enable the chords-com.apple.finder package from the KeyChord/chords monorepo, then focus Finder. Enter chord mode, type gh, and release Space.

The package translates gh into cmd+shift+h, which opens your home folder. Its other bindings include gd for Downloads and ga for Applications.

App-specific chords depend on the focused app. Global chords start with a symbol and work from any application.

Make your first global chord

The configuration guide shows how to define ,t to open Terminal from anywhere, with a single TOML entry.
